Additional funding for specific student groups
There is a range of extra support and advice available for students with dependants. Means-tested support from your LEA includes:

Childcare Grant - help for students with dependent children who are being looked after in registered and approved childcare. How much help you get will depend on your circumstances. In 2007/08 parents can claim up to 85% of actual childcare costs up to a maximum of £148.75 a week for one child and £255 a week for two or more children. You can apply before or during your course.

Parents' Learning Allowance - help with course-related costs for students who have dependent children. How much you get depends on your circumstances.  Parents can receive up to a maximum of £1,435 a year. You can apply for this extra support at the same time as applying to your LEA for a student loan and help towards tuition fees.

There is also additional financial support available to disabled students. Undergraduate (and postgraduate) students who have a disability, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty which affects their ability to study, are eligible to apply for Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs).
