Information for Parents - Settling In

How to help them settle in

Your child is likely to be anxious about starting college or university, especially if they are moving away from home. Reassure them that they will make friends and that everyone is in the same position. Getting involved in Freshers’ Week activities and joining clubs and societies is often an excellent way to meet new likeminded people and can be especially important for students who live away from campus to meet people and get involved in university life.

Keep in touch with your child through phone calls, emails and text messages but try not to bombard and don’t get concerned if they don’t reply immediately – they are probably just too busy enjoying themselves!
